SUMMARY:African Minerva: On the Origins of the Afro-Greco-Roman Goddess
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this special Alumni All Access-Sponsored Emeritus Society Event! \n\n\n\nA presentation and conversation about the African origins of UNCG’s Minerva\, the Roman goddess of wisdom\, known to the Egyptians as ‘Neith’ and the Greeks as ‘Athena.’ Dr. Ali presents the archeological and historical evidence that points to the origins and evolution of this creator deity starting at Sais in the Nile delta as part of a richly connected ancient Mediterranean world. \n\n\n\nDr. Omar H. Ali is a historian and ethnographer of Africa and the global African Diaspora. He received his Ph.D. in History from Columbia University and is the author of over half a dozen books. With classical philologist Rebecca Muich\, his latest book is Africans in the Ancient Mediterranean World\, to be published in 2026. \n\n\n\nPlease click here to purchase your ticket!

DESCRIPTION:The curator of the Women Veterans Historical Project (WVHP) invites you to a “show and tell” of some of her favorite items in the collection. The WVHP is the preeminent research archives of the history of women who have served since World War I in the U.S. military and the American Red Cross. With holdings from over 750 women veterans\, the WVHP preserves and makes accessible oral histories\, uniforms\, photographs\, posters\, recruiting materials\, newsletters\, scrapbooks\, artifacts\, diaries and more!  \n\n\n\nBeth Ann Koelsch has been the curator of the WVHP since 2008. She previously worked as a project archivist at the Sallie Bingham Center for Women’s History and Culture at Duke University\, Durham\, NC. She earned her Master’s in Library Science (MSLS) degree from the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 and her undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1990.  \n\n\n\nCoffee and snacks will be available before and after the presentation in the entryway. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Juliette Bianco\, UNCG’s Associate Vice Chancellor for Museums and Creative Practice\, will be joined by Dr. Amanda Graham\, the inaugural Creative Director of the Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice (JTCCP)\, to share their strategic vision for creative innovation and exchange as part of UNCG’s Millennial Campus initiative\, which advances cross-disciplinary collaboration\, public-private partnerships\, and community-engaged learning. \n\n\n\nSharing the recent successes of the Weatherspoon Art Museum and the limitless potential of the JTCCP\, Drs.
