Spartan Sweethearts 2025

Todd Fisher ’97 and Christine fisher ’05 MFA
“We met on the steps of the UNCG dance department in 2002. Todd was rehearsing for the John Gamble Dance Theater (JGDT). Christine had just moved to Greensboro to begin her MFA studies and began dancing with the company. Old Town was JGDT’s unofficial post-rehearsal hangout. Working together, dancing together, and creating together – both with the company and on other projects led to some nachos and margaritas for us without the company of the company. A post MFA trip to New Orleans, an apartment, a foster cat, and a fringe festival, led to a wedding in the Stephen D. Hyers Theater (which Todd now runs for Creative Greensboro). Our wedding was celebrated with many UNCG alumni and faculty. Almost 26 years later, we’re still in Greensboro – a vibrant arts community – creating art and teaching dance and theater. Minerva willing, Christine will have another degree from UNCG soon – a PhD focused on her research in dance education – while Todd continues to build theater in Greensboro. We still make a point to celebrate our anniversary each year with nachos and a margarita at Old Town.”

Brian Campbell ’02 and Dana Campbell ’03
“Brian Campbell ’02 (Bryan School of Business and Economics) and Dana Campbell ’03 (Communication Studies) met on campus in 2001 and have been building their lives together ever since.
Brian is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Dana is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The Campbells currently reside in the Triad, where they are raising their two children, Elijah and Fiona. They credit UNCG for not only shaping their professional paths but also for being the foundation of their love story and the life they’ve built together.
Brian and Dana are proud to remain connected to the UNCG community and grateful for the experiences that have shaped their journey.”

Ose Mukenge ’12 and Erika Mukenge ’12
“Ose and Erika met at UNCG while taking the same math class. We studied together at the library and quickly became best friends. In 2016, Ose brought Erika to UNCG for a walk around campus and a “trip down memory lane” and then popped the question and proposed in front of the beautiful music building. Ose and Erika have been married for almost 9 years and have 2 wonderful children and a dog.”

Kaitlyn Tran ’23 and Mario Mandujano ’24
“Mario and I met in the Fall of 2018 during our first year of undergraduate and began dating Spring of 2019. We have been dating since and recently got engaged in September 2024. February 24th will be our 6 year anniversary. He graduated in Spring 2024 with a degree in advanced mathematics with a minor in computer science. I graduated Spring 2023 with a degree in human development and family studies with a minor in Information Systems and Operations Management. I am currently in the Human Development and Family Studies doctoral program at UNCG. UNCG has brought us many great people, lessons, and memories!”

Butler Knowles ‘18 and Holly Williams ‘18, ‘20 MA
“Butler Knowles ‘18 and Holly Williams ‘18, ‘20 MA first remember meeting at one of the many UNCG music events where Butler performed and Holly attended. Though their interactions were often brief at the time, both Butler and Holly felt there was more in store for their friendship. After graduating, the two stayed connected through mutual friends, but it wasn’t until the Fall of 2021 when sparks really started to fly. Like old times, Holly attended one of Butler’s performances and the two have been inseparable ever since. These days, Holly is a Communication and Media Studies instructor at UNCG and Butler is a full time bassist. They spend their time traveling, hanging out with their two pit bull terriers, Roscoe and Minnie, and of course, enjoying lots of music!”

Mia Kuykendall ’20 and John Kuykendall ’20
We met in Fall of 2017 at the EUC. John was sitting in the food court, and Mia was walking in to meet a friend, our eyes met and the rest was history. After we both graduated in 2020 (COVID Grads!) we moved to Durham to start our life together. We married in August 2023. UNCG gave us many memories together: late night walks on College Ave., pushing each other out of the way to avoid walking under the clock tower, and many late nights studying together at Jackson Library. We wouldn’t trade it for the world. You’ll find our names scribbled on a slab on concrete near campus! Thanks UNCG!”

“Colin and I met at UNCG through the cross-country and track teams. We spent many evenings in the library writing papers, and having homework dates at almost every coffee shop in Greensboro. When we weren’t studying, we were out eating. Pedro’s on Tate Street was a favorite until it sadly closed during COVID. We were big fans of late-night trips to Cookout and Cold Stone, and loved movie nights at the Friendly Center. In 2021, I graduated with my degree in Political Science, and in 2023, Colin and I both graduated—me with my Master’s in Public Affairs, and him with his Bachelor’s in History. After graduation, he joined the Army to become an officer, and I moved to D.C. to work for the Department of Justice. In May 2024, after he finished basic training and OCS, we went back to Greensboro, where he proposed on College Avenue. We eloped at the National Art Museum in D.C. that same month, and a few months later, we moved to Germany for his first duty station. Now, we’re starting the new year in Germany, ready for this next chapter together.
UNCG and Greensboro will always be special to us—it’s where we met, and where so many of our best memories were made!”

UNCG, 1999. Trey saw me for the first time at the fountain. I stuck out because it was lunchtime (so, noon give or take) and I had on leopard print pants and full on going out hair/make up. Pajamas and leggings to class weren’t a thing in those days!
I remember seeing his smile. It was big and friendly and went all the way to his kind eyes. We didn’t officially get together until a few years later, but I recall thinking: “wow – that guy has the nicest smile I’ve ever seen.”
Spoiler alert: he’s still got the nicest smile I’ve ever seen! It’s carried me through multiple moves with the military, four kids (including triplets), life’s highs and lows, and 16 years of marriage and counting.
…but no more leopard print!

I met my husband my freshman year of college (2018). We remained good friends until 2021, when we started dating. We just got married in October of 2024 and couldn’t imagine life without one another. Thank you UNCG for another successful love story!
